Lwaxana Troi Fashion Picspam of EPIC!

Hullo, where_no_woman! I didn't get into [livejournal.com profile] womenlovefest in time to get a Lwaxana Troi post made, but I decided to kick off my (long-planned) series of DS9 Epic Fashions of Epic picspam posts with a Lwaxana fashion picspam this week anyway. And I figured y'all might be interested.

It is here on my journal. 48 large pictures, 31 costumes (I went for DS9 and TNG both), lots of awesome insanity Lwaxana. ;-)

epic Number One picspamage of epic epicness!

Warning: the following contains epic awesome in the form of
Majel Leigh Hudec Barrett Roddenberry
being generally gorgeous and badass.

You have been warned.

~*~Vaginas¹ on the Enterprise~*~

Continuing in the theme of my picspam of minor female characters on DS9, it's...

VAGINAS¹ ON THE ENTERPRISE
(and beyoooooond!)
(¹ and beyooooooond vaginas as well, since not every woman has or needs one! This is where I apologize for the cisgender-privileged thinking that went into my title. Not cool.)

Funny thing about Star Trek XI: it's pretty much a brodeo, to use the technical term. We here, being contrary sorts, have made it our business to love and illuminate four women in the movie, only one of whom received any real narrative weight in and of herself. I love that we have done this, as I love the four of them. But another funny thing about Star Trek XI is that it is actually full of women -- they just don't have names or conversations or personalities that we get to hear about. They're there, delivering most of the incidental expository dialogue, pushing the buttons, and making the world look real. They flesh out the story. And because I'm me and this is apparently what I do, I bring some of them to you now. So that they can be seen on their own terms, and so that, I even dare hope, this might inspire us to tell their stories, too.

Star Trek XI and deleted scenes caps by Ariane's Star Trek Gallery, Trekcore, Screenmusings, and in one sad case myself. Title appropriated from [livejournal.com profile] affectingly, which is why you should be careful when saying hilarious phrases in my presence.

heavy in both images and extras! safe for work unless your work has a problem with people in space underwear. )

Why You Should Love DS9 (as told in ladies)

Where No Woman, we need to talk... ABOUT SOME BADASS FRIGGIN' LADIES. Specifically, those of Deep Space Nine. I watched some of DS9 when I was a kid and always liked it, but for some reason I wasn't a dedicated viewer like I was with TNG, so after years of threatening to do so I'm finally watching DS9 as it should be seen: by an adult capable of understanding political plots, and on the lookout for rad female characters.

I highly recommend you all schedule this awesome awesome Trek in to your lives, and here present a multimedia argument to lure you in, with screencaps courtesy of Trekcore:

FEMALE GUEST STARS OF DEEP SPACE NINE
LOOKIT 'EM

(through episode 2.10 only; no significant spoilers)

Note: Many of these characters were one-shots who appeared in episodes centered around them and did not appear again -- as much as I love Kira and Dax, the lesser-known women of DS9 need attention too!

heavy on images and awesome ladies! )

Picspam: Chapel!

The more I watch TOS, the more I come to love Christine Chapel (when she's there which isn't nearly enough IMO). That being said, I've decided to try to picspam all the episodes she has been in. This one is two episodes from season 1 (I wanted to do it chronologically but screwed it up). Still, hope you enjoy it!

That's Captain Uhura to you

So, I have a massive amount of love for Star Trek: The Animated Series. I first saw the series on Laserdisc (the technology...of the future) when I was about 10 or so. And there was one episode in particular that I really latched onto, The Lorelei Signal, which is basically a showcase for all of the seen (and unseen) women on the Starship Enterprise.

The plot is a bit wacky and weird, much like most 60's-70's Saturday Morning cartoons. But the episode poses an interesting question: What would happen if all the men on the Enterprise were suddenly incapacitated and needed help?

Find out now! Come, bask in The Lorelei Signal's Awesomeness )
