20th-Nov-2009 02:02 pm - FIC: I told you your dreams would come true, Demora Sulu
Hello people! I can't believe I hadn't really heard of this community before, it's AWESOME. I posted a fic yesterday, and someone told me I should share it here so er, here it is!

Title: I told you your dreams would come true
Author: [livejournal.com profile] alldoubtaboutit
Rating: PG
Characters/Pairings: Demora Sulu, Pavel Chekov/Hikaru Sulu, ensemble.
Warning: allusion to character death at the end
Type: oneshot
Word count: 5,842 words

Summary: Demora Sulu is the daughter of Pavel Chekov and Hikaru Sulu. Once upon a time her daddy told her, mouth pressed to the crown of her head, that all children are dreamed into existence by their parents.

Notes: I've been meaning to write something like this for a while now, a fic squarely from the perspective of an (adopted) Asian girl without a mother growing up in the Star Trek world, and perhaps more so, a fic about finding one's identity and family. Hope it fits into the theme of this comm well enough.

About Demora's origin, it is based on this fic I wrote a while back but this fic stands independently on its own.

And a helpful key: Sulu is 'daddy', Chekov is 'papa'. :D

8th-Jul-2009 02:29 pm - a D.C. Fontana primer
ext_62811: (st // backstage and all)
The onscreen ladies of Star Trek get a lot of love (and scrutiny). But what about the ones working behind the scenes? D.C. Fontana worked on several incarnations of ST, penned some of the most loved episodes of the original series and its spinoffs, and created several fascinating female characters, many of whom we're still writing and debating about today. Her career has spanned half a decade, and she's still coming up with new stories to tell.

In honor of Fontana's amazing work, I've put together a primer detailing her contributions, with quotes, photos illustrations, and links, here: a D.C. Fontana primer.  It also features a little info about the female characters Fontana created, including Amanda Grayson and Joanna McCoy.
24th-Jun-2009 01:04 pm - That's Captain Uhura to you
So, I have a massive amount of love for Star Trek: The Animated Series. I first saw the series on Laserdisc (the technology...of the future) when I was about 10 or so. And there was one episode in particular that I really latched onto, The Lorelei Signal, which is basically a showcase for all of the seen (and unseen) women on the Starship Enterprise.

The plot is a bit wacky and weird, much like most 60's-70's Saturday Morning cartoons. But the episode poses an interesting question: What would happen if all the men on the Enterprise were suddenly incapacitated and needed help?

Find out now! Come, bask in The Lorelei Signal's Awesomeness )
