Hello, beautiful community that I adore. I failed you this summer when I flaked on the Femslash and Queer Gen fest. Now, five months late, I have finally written a story that fills the lovely request I received. I post it here now – call it ritual expiation of guilt. No real restitution for being a flake, but I hope some of y'all will like it all the same.

Have you checked out our wish list post to see if you can grant any wishes? If not, there's still time. Although the fest was officially scheduled to close on January 1, I understand that many of us were busy working on stories with more stringent deadlines, so I'm going to hold off on making the master list until January 8. I've got a story in the works, and I hope a few more of us can make something.

Also relevant to our interests: rarewomen is hosting an exchange this spring. Both large and small (Yuletide-size) fandoms will be eligible. Read the schedule and nomination info, then discuss which AOS women should be considered rare. There's also a TOS discussion thread, which you can find with a little poking around. I haven't seen a thread for other ST franchises, but they are eligible for inclusion.

Title: No Such Thing as Coincidence in Command Track

Summary: Winona is surprised to find herself in a Command track strategy class. What's more surprising is how she got there.
Notes: Written for echoinautumn as part of my personal holiday drabble series. This was my first time writing these characters and it was so much fun to try to see Jim in each of them. I hope you see what I saw, or even something that I didn't. Also, I researched and couldn't find Winona's maiden name, so I've just made one up for her here.

Winona Maris isn't entirely sure how she ended up in the Command Officer Strategics class, but she blames her Starfleet advisor. She's on the science track, planning on making officer in three years, and she doesn't have time for this sort of nonsense.
